Both male and female dogs respond to potty training wonderfully when consistency on the part of the handler is implemented. It is also important to have your male Pomeranian neutered by 6 months of age, before the "marking of territory" habit establishes itself. If a male dog is neutered as a puppy before reaching puberty, his testosterone levels never spike. Because testosterone is the primary hormonal trigger that tells a dog's brain to mark territory and lift its leg, an early-neutered male simply never develops that instinct. While all young male puppies squat to pee, some never develop the desire to lift their leg, and will lean toward the ground instead. As a final note, male and female dogs have different anatomy, and some dog owners agree that male dogs can comfortably manage a full bladder longer than females, likely due to external anatomy and larger bladder capacities.
